Microsoft announced on Friday that it will suspend all new product and service sales in Russia.

Microsoft's president, Brad Smith, announced the decision on Friday, as Western businesses continue to boycott Russia following its invasion of Ukraine last week. Microsoft did not say whether existing services would be maintained.

Microsoft stated that it is cooperating closely with the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, and that it is also suspending "many aspects" of its operations in Russia in accordance with coordinated government sanctions.

"We believe we will be most effective in assisting Ukraine when we take concrete steps in coordination with the decisions made by these governments, and we will take additional steps as the situation evolves," Smith wrote.

Microsoft stated earlier this week that it was working to keep Ukraine informed of cyberattacks. Attackers have targeted Ukrainian military institutions and manufacturers, as well as several other Ukrainian government agencies, according to Smith in a separate post on Monday.

Other US technology companies have reduced their involvement in Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine. Apple announced on Tuesday that it would no longer sell products in the country through its Apple Store. Google has halted all advertising in Russia, and Airbnb has ceased all operations in Russia and Belarus.
